গত ৩ আগস্ট বিকেল ৫টা ২৫ মিনিটে গোপন সংবাদের ভিত্তিতে জানা যায়, ইয়াবার একটি বড় চালান গ্রহণের উদ্দেশ্যে একটি সাদা রঙের প্রাইভেটকারযোগে মাদক কারবারিরা মৌলভীবাজার-ঢাকা বাসস্ট্যান্ড এলাকার দিকে আসছে। এ তথ্যের ভিত্তিতে এসআই (নিঃ) রিপটন পুরকায়স্থের নেতৃত্বে এএসআই (নিঃ) মো. রানা মিয়া, এএসআই (নিঃ) জাহিদুল ইসলাম, এএসআই (নিঃ) ইখতিয়ার হোসেন, কনস্টেবল পিন্টু চন্দ্র শীল ও সঙ্গীয় ফোর্স বিকেল সাড়ে ৫টার দিকে মৌলভীবাজার শহরের শ্রীমঙ্গল রোডস্থ পঞ্চমী ওয়াশিং সেন্টারের সামনে অবস্থান নিয়ে সন্দেহভাজন প্রাইভেটকারটি আটক করেন।

প্রাথমিক জিজ্ঞাসাবাদে চালক মুরাদ আলী মিলনের দেওয়া তথ্যের ভিত্তিতে শ্রীমঙ্গল রোডস্থ এসএমএস বাস কাউন্টারের সামনে থেকে তার দুই সহযোগী মানিক আহমদ ও সাব্বির আহমদকে আটক করা হয়।

পরে উপস্থিত সাক্ষীদের সামনে আসামিদের দেহ ও ব্যবহৃত প্রাইভেটকার তল্লাশি করে দুটি শপিং ব্যাগে থাকা স্কচটেপ দিয়ে মোড়ানো চারটি প্যাকেট থেকে মোট ৮ হাজার পিস ইয়াবা ট্যাবলেট উদ্ধার করা হয়। এছাড়া তাদের হেফাজত থেকে মাদক বিক্রয়লব্ধ নগদ ৪ লাখ ৪০ হাজার টাকা এবং ঢাকা মেট্রো গ-১৫-৫৬০৫ নম্বরের একটি সাদা রঙের প্রাইভেটকার জব্দ করা হয়।

গ্রেপ্তারকৃতরা হলেন সিলেট জেলার জকিগঞ্জ উপজেলার মানিক আহমদ (৩২), সাব্বির আহমদ (২৬) এবং মৌলভীবাজারের রাজনগর উপজেলার মুরাদ আলী মিলন (৪৫)।

মৌলভীবাজার সদর মডেল থানার অফিসার ইনচার্জ মো. সাইফুল ইসলাম জানান, প্রাথমিক জিজ্ঞাসাবাদে গ্রেপ্তারকৃতরা পরস্পরের যোগসাজশে সিলেটের জকিগঞ্জ সীমান্ত দিয়ে ইয়াবার চালান এনে মৌলভীবাজার সদরসহ আশপাশের বিভিন্ন এলাকায় বিক্রি করার কথা স্বীকার করেছে।

এ ঘটনায় গ্রেপ্তারকৃতদের বিরুদ্ধে ২০১৮ সালের মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ আইনে মৌলভীবাজার সদর মডেল থানায় নিয়মিত মামলা রুজু করা হয়েছে।

গত ২ আগস্ট রাত ১১টা ২০ মিনিটে কুলাউড়া থানা পুলিশের একটি আভিযানিক দল থানাধীন ৮ নম্বর রাউৎগাঁও ইউনিয়নের দক্ষিণ মনরাজ জামে মসজিদের সামনে অভিযান পরিচালনা করে। এ সময় ইয়াবা ক্রয়-বিক্রয়কালে মোঃ আলাউদ্দিন (২০) নামে এক যুবককে গ্রেফতার হয়। ঘটনাস্থলে তার কাছ থেকে ১০ (দশ) পিস ইয়াবা উদ্ধার করা হয়।

পরবর্তীতে গ্রেফতারকৃত আসামির দেওয়া তথ্যের ভিত্তিতে একই গ্রামের জুবেল মিয়া (২৭)-এর বসতঘরের টয়লেটে বিশেষভাবে লুকিয়ে রাখা আরও ৯০ (নব্বই) পিসসহ মোট ১০০ (একশত) পিস ইয়াবা ট্যাবলেট উদ্ধার করা হয়। প্রাথমিক অনুসন্ধানে তারা দীর্ঘদিন ধরে এলাকায় মাদক ব্যবসার সঙ্গে জড়িত বলে জানা যায়।

গ্রেফতারকৃত মো. আলাউদ্দিন (২০) কুলাউড়া উপজেলার ৮ নম্বর রাউৎগাঁও ইউনিয়নের মনরাজ গ্রামের চেরাগ আলীর ছেলে। এই ঘটনায় মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ আইনে কুলাউড়া থানায় মামলা দায়ের করা হয়েছে।

এছাড়া, একই দিনে কুলাউড়া থানা পুলিশ পরিচালিত পৃথক অভিযানে শিশু অপহরণ ও ধর্ষণ মামলার ১ জন আসামিসহ নন-এফআইআরভুক্ত ৫ জনকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়েছে। সব মিলিয়ে মোট ৭ (সাত) জনকে আইনানুগ প্রক্রিয়া শেষে বিজ্ঞ আদালতে সোপর্দ করা হয়েছে।

প্রধানমন্ত্রী তারেক রহমান দেশবাসীর প্রতি আহ্বান জানিয়ে বলেছেন, আসুন আমরা সবাই মিলে চেষ্টা করি আমাদের দেশটাকে পরিষ্কার ও সুন্দর রাখতে। যা নিশ্চিত করবে আমাদের আগামী দিনের বংশধরদের জন্য একটি সুস্থ দেশ, সুস্থ পরিবেশ।

সোমবার (৩ আগস্ট) সকালে ভেরিফাইড ফেসবুক পেজে দেওয়া এক ভিডিও বার্তায় প্রধানমন্ত্রী তারেক রহমান দেশবাসীর উদ্দেশ্যে এই আহ্বান জানান।

প্রধানমন্ত্রী বলেন, পরিচ্ছন্ন পরিবেশের বিষয়টি সমাজের প্রতিটি শ্রেণি-পেশার মানুষকে স্পর্শ করে। ৪০ বা ৩০ বছর আগের তুলনায় বর্তমান সময়ে ঢাকা শহরসহ জেলা, উপজেলা ও গ্রামগঞ্জের রাস্তাঘাট এবং বাজার এলাকায় প্লাস্টিকের বোতল, চিপসের প্যাকেট, ব্যবহৃত টিস্যুসহ নানাবিধ আবর্জনা যত্রতত্র ছড়িয়ে-ছিটিয়ে থাকার প্রবণতা আশঙ্কাজনকভাবে বেড়েছে।

ময়লা আবর্জনা সঠিক উপায়ে ধ্বংস করার প্রতি গুরত্বারোপ করে প্রধানমন্ত্রী বলেন, বাংলাদেশের অধিকাংশ মানুষই পায়ে হেঁটে চলে অথবা বাসে চলাচল করে। এই মানুষগুলো যখন রাস্তা পার হয়, বিভিন্ন জায়গায় যখন আবর্জনা জমে থাকে, ময়লা থাকে, এই মানুষগুলোর কিন্তু অনেক কষ্ট হয়। বিভিন্ন জায়গায় অনেক দুর্গন্ধ হয়, আবর্জনা জমে থাকে। তবে আমরা যদি সকলে মিলে একটু সচেতন হই। যত্রতত্র আমাদের ব্যবহারকৃত আবর্জনা না ফেলে একটি নির্দিষ্ট জায়গায় জমা করি এবং নির্দিষ্ট উপায়ে যদি এটাকে পরে ধ্বংস করি, তাহলে যেমন আমাদের পরিবেশটি ভালো থাকবে ঠিক একইভাবে আমরা আমাদের পরিবেশটাকে সুন্দরভাবে রাখতে পারব।

নিজের ঘরের পরিচ্ছন্নতার উদাহরণ টেনে তিনি বলেন, ‘চিন্তা করে দেখুন তো আপনার ঘরে যে ঘরটিতে আপনি থাকেন, যে বাসাটিতে আপনি থাকেন, যদি চারিদিকে এমন তৃষ্ণ ছড়িয়ে থাকতো, যদি চারিদিকে এমন আবর্জনা ছড়িয়ে থাকতো, আপনার কাছে কি ভালো লাগতো দেখতে? নিশ্চয়ই না। আমাদের কারো কাছেই ভালো লাগতো না। কবি তো সুন্দরভাবে লিখেছেন, সবুজ, শস্য শ্যামলা আমার ভুবন। তবে আমরা কেন আমাদের পরিবেশটাকে সুন্দর করতে পারবো না।

দেশের বিভিন্ন অঞ্চলে তার সাম্প্রতিক সফরের অভিজ্ঞতার কথা তুলে ধরে প্রধানমন্ত্রী বলেন, ‘গত কয়েক মাসে যখন আমি দেশের বিভিন্ন জায়গায় গিয়েছি হয়তো কোন একটি পুকুরের পাশ দিয়ে যাচ্ছি, দেখেছি পুকুরের ভিতরে বিভিন্ন রকম ময়লা স্তুুপ হয়ে পড়ে আছে। অথবা পুকুরপাড়ে বিভিন্ন ময়লা স্তুূপ হয়ে পড়ে আছে। অথচ একসময় এসব স্থানে মানুষ পরিবার-পরিজন নিয়ে বসত ও গল্প করত।’

তিনি বলেন, ‘আমরা যখন যাই তখন হয়তো যারা পরিচ্ছন্ন কর্মী তারা হয়তো পরিষ্কার করে রাখছে। কিন্তু আমরা যখন বেরিয়ে আসছি তখন আর সেটি আগের মতন পরিষ্কার থাকছে না। যদি পরিষ্কার থাকতো আপনি যদি পরিষ্কার করে রেখে আসেন আপনার পরবর্তীতে যে যাবে সেও সেই পরিচ্ছন্নতার সুন্দর পরিবেশটি উপভোগ করতে পারবে।’

সচেতনতার গুরুত্ব তুলে ধরে তিনি আরও বলেন, ‘আমরা যদি আজকে থেকে প্রত্যেকে সচেতন হই আমাদের হাতের আবর্জনা বা ব্যবহৃত আবর্জনা যদি নির্দিষ্ট জায়গায় সুন্দরভাবে আমরা গুছিয়ে ফেলি তাহলে ধীরে ধীরে হয়তো আমরা আমাদের এই বাংলাদেশটাকে আবর্জনা মুক্ত করতে পারবো। সুন্দর একটি পরিবেশ গড়ে তুলতে পারবো।’

দেশ গঠনে সবার সম্মিলিত প্রচেষ্টার ওপর জোর দিয়ে প্রধানমন্ত্রী বলেন, ‘দেশটা তো আমাদের সকলের। আমরা সকলে মিলে যদি চেষ্টা করি তাহলে আমরা বড় কিছু করতে সক্ষম হব। প্রিয় দেশবাসী, আপনাদের কাছে আজকে এই সহযোগিতাটা আমি চাইছি।’

Shop owner and his two sons injured after alleged break-in, police say

A suspected thief was beaten to death by an angry mob after allegedly attacking a shop owner and his two sons with a sharp weapon during an attempted theft in Pabna’s Ishwardi upazila early today, police said.

The deceased was identified as Manik Hossain, alias Sumon, 32, son of the late Boyen Mondol of Azizulltola village in the upazila.

Officer-in-Charge of Ishwardi Police Station Asadur Rahman said the incident took place around 3:00am in the Mistripara Thandatola area, where the suspect allegedly broke into the shop of Habibul Islam.

Habibul, who was sleeping in an adjacent room, sensed the break-in and rushed to stop the intruder. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly attacked him with a sharp weapon, leaving him injured, the OC said.

Hearing Habibul’s screams, his two sons rushed to the scene but were also allegedly attacked by the suspect.

Locals gathered after hearing the commotion, caught the suspected thief and beat him, leaving him dead at the scene, police said.

The three injured victims were taken to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

Police recovered the body this morning and sent it to Pabna General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

“We are preparing to take legal action in connection with the incident,” the OC said.

A suicide bomber has killed over a dozen people including police in an attack during a demonstration of citizens against militancy. More than 18 people were injured in the attack

A suicide bomber killed 14 people and injured dozens more in an attack targeting anti-militancy demonstrators in the city of Kabal in Pakistan’s northwestern Swat Valley.

Five police officers were among those killed at the event, which was staged outside a local police station to protest growing militant violence in the region and the state’s inability to protect citizens.

Those gathered accused authorities of failing to act decisively against militants, saying residents want to live without fear after years of devastating violence.

The area was the home of Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai, who was shot there by a Taliban gunman in 2012.

Hundreds of people were at the rally and social media video footage showed a speaker mid-sentence when an explosion rocked the area and sparked panic among demonstrators.

“The suicide bomber blew himself up when asked for a search in front of the police station,” a local police official said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the crime.

A former Taliban stronghold

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif both condemned the attack.

“Terrorists,” said Zardari, “will never succeed in their nefarious efforts to harm peace, national unity and the writ of the state.”

Pakistan has experienced a surge in militant attacks of late, with many targeting police and security forces.

The Swat Valley was a Taliban stronghold between 2007 and 2009, when Pakistan’s military drove the Islamists out and re-established government control over the area.

The religious militants have recently resurfaced, however, with the Pakistani Taliban, known as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, or TTP, being particularly active.

The TTP is separate from, but allied with, Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers and has been a source of tension between the neighboring countries.

Pakistan says the TTP and other militant groups are carrying out attacks in the country with the support of Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers and has promised to continue targeting the TTP and its support network.

প্রথম অভিযানে রাত ৮টা ১০ মিনিটের দিকে টিলাগাঁও ইউনিয়নের আমানীপুর সরকারি প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয়ের সামনে পাকা সড়ক থেকে কামাল হোসেন (৩৫) নামে এক ব্যক্তিকে আটক করা হয়। তিনি উত্তর হিজলী গ্রামের মৃত আব্দুল জলিলের ছেলে। পরে তার দেহ তল্লাশি করে পরিহিত প্যান্টের ডান পকেট থেকে লাল রঙের পলিথিনে মোড়ানো দুই ছড়ায় মোট ২০ পিস কথিত ইয়াবা ট্যাবলেট উদ্ধার করা হয়।

একই রাতে রাত ৯টা ১০ মিনিটের দিকে পৃথিমপাশা ইউনিয়নের উত্তর রবীরবাজার এলাকায় ওমর ফারুক ফার্নিচার দোকানের সামনে অভিযান চালিয়ে মাহমুদ আলী (৪৫)-কে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। তিনি টিলাগাঁও ইউনিয়নের আমানীপুর গ্রামের মৃত মছদ্দর আলীর ছেলে। তার দেহ তল্লাশি করে পরিহিত শার্টের সামনের বাম পকেট থেকে লাল রঙের পলিথিনে মোড়ানো দুই ছড়ায় মোট ২৫ পিস কথিত ইয়াবা ট্যাবলেট এবং মাদক বিক্রির ২ হাজার ৫০০ টাকা উদ্ধার করা হয়।

জেলা গোয়েন্দা শাখার অফিসার ইনচার্জ সুদীপ্ত শেখর ভট্টাচার্য্য জানান, প্রাথমিক জিজ্ঞাসাবাদে দুই আসামিই বিক্রয়ের উদ্দেশ্যে ইয়াবা নিজেদের হেফাজতে রাখার কথা স্বীকার করেছেন। এ ঘটনায় তাদের বিরুদ্ধে মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ আইন, ২০১৮ অনুযায়ী কুলাউড়া থানায় পৃথক মামলা দায়ের করা হয়েছে।

গ্রেপ্তার কামাল হোসেনের বিরুদ্ধে পূর্বে মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ আইনে একটি মামলা এবং মাহমুদ আলীর বিরুদ্ধে চুরির একটি মামলা রয়েছে।

উদ্ধারকৃত আলামত জব্দ করে দুই আসামিকে আদালতে সোপর্দ করা হয়েছে। মৌলভীবাজার জেলার পুলিশ সুপার মোঃ মনিরুল ইসলামের নির্দেশনায় জেলা গোয়েন্দা শাখার মাদকবিরোধী বিশেষ অভিযান অব্যাহত থাকবে।

Armed robbers searched the vehicle and targeted three bKash sales representatives carrying cash

Armed robbers intercepted a bus on the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf highway and looted Tk 57 lakh in cash from three bKash sales representatives after stabbing one and assaulting the others today.

The incident occurred at around 1:45pm in the Dumdumia area of Teknaf upazila, Teknaf Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam said.

Quoting the bKash representatives, he said Tk 57 lakh had been looted from them.

Members of the police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Coast Guard had been deployed in the area. A joint operation has been launched to identify the robbers’ hideouts in the surrounding hills, recover the looted money and bring those responsible to justice, he added.

The injured were identified as Arman, 24, who sustained stab injuries, Sakib, 21, and Ekram, 22. All three are residents of Teknaf municipality and work as sales representatives for bKash.

According to local sources and eyewitnesses, the Palki Paribahan bus was travelling from Teknaf to Cox’s Bazar when a group of masked and armed robbers emerged from nearby hills and blocked the highway by placing a large nail-studded log across the road.

After forcing the bus to stop, the attackers held passengers at gunpoint and searched the vehicle.

The bKash employees said they had withdrawn the cash from the Teknaf branch of Shimanto Bank and were transporting it to agents in Hnila and Whykong unions.

Arman was stabbed when he attempted to resist, while the other two employees were assaulted.

After the robbery, the attackers fled towards the surrounding hills. Local residents suspect the gang may include both locals and Rohingyas.

Court also shows alleged member of Boro Sazzad’s criminal network arrested in an extortion case

A court in Chattogram today placed listed criminal David Emon alias Mobarak Hossain Emon on a 10-day remand in two separate cases filed with Fatikchhari Police Station.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Motasim Billah passed the order after police produced him before the court.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Hathazari Circle) Kazi Tarek Aziz told Media that the court granted a five-day remand in the Jamal murder case and another five-day remand for Emon and his four associates in an arms case filed with Fatikchhari Police Station.

He added that another court also showed Emon arrested in an extortion case filed with Hathazari Police Station.

Emon and three of his associates were arrested in Jashore on July 30 while allegedly attempting to cross into India through the Jhikargacha border, police said.

Police have identified Emon as one of the two men allegedly running fugitive gangster Boro Sazzad’s criminal network in Chattogram.

Emon is accused in at least seven cases, including the Bakalia double murder on March 30, 2025; the killing of gangster Dhakaiya Akbar at Patenga Sea Beach on May 23, 2025; and vandalising and looting the office of internet service provider Digital Dot Net after allegedly demanding Tk 2 crore.

Police said Emon and Raihan Alam took over the gang’s day-to-day operations after the imprisonment of Sazzad Hossain alias Chhoto Sazzad. Raihan is also accused in at least eight cases, including murder, extortion and illegal possession of firearms.

Defence says he has now secured bail in three of the six cases filed against him

High Court today granted bail to former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, also known as Chandan Kumar Dhar, in two cases.

However, he will not be released from jail as he remains arrested in other cases.

The bench of Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher delivered the verdict after hearing two separate petitions filed by Chinmoy seeking bail.

The cases were filed with Kotwali Police Station in Chattogram on charges of attempting to murder and preventing police from discharging duties.

The bench also set August 16 to hear two other bail petitions filed by Chinmoy, who has been in jail since November 25, 2024, his lawyer Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya told Media.

According to the defence lawyer, Chinmoy has been accused in six cases, including murder and sedition. He has already secured bail in three cases from the High Court and lower courts.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has, however, stayed a High Court order granting him bail in the sedition case, the lawyer added.
