Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has urged Community Bank PLC to use its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to support the families of police and other disciplined-force personnel who have died or suffered permanent disabilities in the line of duty.
“CSR funds must not be used for political purposes or to please anyone,” he said.
He made the remarks as chief guest at the bank’s seventh anniversary programme at Hotel InterContinental Dhaka today.
Ahmed said supporting the families of police and disciplined-force members who died or became disabled while serving the country represents a genuine social and state responsibility.
He specifically called on the bank to provide support from its CSR fund to the family of a police officer recently killed by criminals in Aminbazar, Savar.
He also urged the bank to assist the family of a disciplined-force officer killed while on duty at Jungle Salimpur in Chattogram during the interim government’s tenure.
Ahmed urged Community Bank to expand its services beyond police personnel and build the confidence of ordinary depositors and businesses.
He said the bank should focus not only on making profits but also on providing quality banking services to more people.
The minister called for simpler loan processing, collateral procedures and disbursement, without unnecessary conditions or complications for trustworthy customers.
The programme was chaired by Community Bank Chairman and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir.
Managing Director Mohammed Emtiaz Uddin delivered the welcome address.
As part of the seventh anniversary celebrations, the minister also inaugurated the bank’s ‘Bike Loan’ and ‘Dream Home’ home-loan schemes for police personnel.
