Man shot dead in Khulna

Locally known as 'Pagla Shahjahan', Ismail was accused in police assault and murder cases, police say A man was shot dead by criminals in the Khulna city early today. The deceased was identified as Md Ismail, 32, also known locally as “Pagla Shahjahan”, confirmed police. The shooting took place around 12:15am on Friday in the South Tutpara Boro Khalpar area. Police said Ismail was locally known as a "drug trader" and "armed criminal", and had several cases filed against him, including a police assault case and a murder case. According to locals and police, miscreants opened fire targeting Ismail, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital, with a bullet injury in his head, where doctors declared him dead. Md Shofiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Khulna Sadar Police Station, said they suspected that the assailants first shot Ismail in the head and later hit him with a sharp weapon. Police visited the scene and collected evidence, he added. His body was kept at the Khulna Medical College morgue for autopsy. Police are investigating the motive behind the killing and trying to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
