LGRD minister says the old administrative culture survives despite the sacrifices and promise of the July Uprising
LGRD Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today expressed regret that despite the July Uprising being driven by a desire for change, the old culture continues to persist within the administration.
“I say this with deep pain. After serving as a minister for the past four or five months, I feel I should share some of what I have experienced. From what I have seen, nothing has changed. Those who took bribes before are still finding ways to do so, and those who obstructed good initiatives are still standing in their way. Only their appearances have changed... they have now become the biggest July fighters,” he said while addressing a discussion organised by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in Dhaka as the chief guest.
Expressing his disappointment, Fakhrul said he had genuinely hoped to witness change.
"I am saying these things with regret. I am old. This time, I truly wanted to see change. So far, I do not see that change among us. Not only the government or political leadership, but the mindset of every person in society also needs to change. Otherwise, the sacrifices of July will not bring the desired result," he said.
Despite his disappointment, Fakhrul expressed confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
"I am hopeful because I see change in one person. That person is Tarique Rahman. He is trying to bring change. He is setting new examples. If we carry those examples forward, I think change will come to the country. We all need to support him," he said.
He said the success of the July revolution would depend on bringing change across all sections of society.
"If we can bring change in every part of society, the July revolution will succeed, and we will be able to see its result. I believe the people of Bangladesh are very hardworking and willing to make sacrifices. They want change. Wherever we are, if we can do our work properly, change will surely come," he added.
