Universities JnU student Jobayed murder: Police charge three, cite love triangle as motive

Police have recently submitted a chargesheet in the murder case of Jagannath University (JnU) Statistics Department student and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader Jobayed Hossain, accusing three people, including Jobayed’s student Barjis Shabnam Barsha.

The other two accused are Barsha’s boyfriend, Mahir Rahman, 19, and Mahir’s friend Fardeen Ahmed Aylan, 21.

The chargesheet identifies Barsha and Mahir as the masterminds, saying Mahir carried out the killing with Aylan’s assistance. It also reads the murder was premeditated and planned nearly a month earlier.

It also includes 50 witnesses’ statements, along with digital and forensic evidence. It says Barsha was romantically involved with both Jobayed and Mahir. It alleges that the three killed Jobayed, fearing that intimate photos and videos of Barsha and Jobayed might be leaked.

Confirming the development, the complainant’s lawyer Ishtiaq Hossain Zipu said the accused had earlier given confessional statements. “There is neither any scope for Mahir to escape nor for the other accused,” he added.

On 19 October 2025, Jobayed was stabbed to death after he went to tutor Barsha at her residence in the capital’s Armanitola.
