Business Gold prices jump again: What is new price per bhori?

The gold prices jumped again in the local market on Thursday.

The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has raised the prices of gold and silver jewellery in the local market, with the new rates taking effect from 10am today.

BAJUS took the decision after prices of acid-treated gold and silver, or pure gold and silver, increased in the local market.

The BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring announced the decision at a meeting this day. Committee Chairman Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen signed the notice confirming the revised rates.

Under the new rates, 22-carat cadmium hallmarked gold jewellery sells at Tk20,630 per gram, including VAT. The price translates to Tk240,628 per bhori, with one bhori equivalent to 11.664 grams.

The price of 21-carat gold stands at Tk19,700 per gram, or Tk229,781 per bhori, while 18-carat gold sells at Tk16,920 per gram, or Tk197,355 per bhori.

Gold jewellery produced under the traditional method now costs Tk13,820 per gram, including VAT, or Tk161,196 per bhori.

BAJUS also announced new prices for silver jewellery.

Under the revised rates, 22-carat cadmium silver jewellery sells at Tk455 per gram, including VAT, which equals Tk5,307 per bhori. The price of 21-carat silver stands at Tk435 per gram, or Tk5,074 per bhori.

Eighteen-carat silver sells at Tk375 per gram, equivalent to Tk4,374 per bhori, while silver jewellery produced under the traditional method costs Tk285 per gram, or Tk3,324 per bhori.

BAJUS said jewellers will charge making costs separately according to the design of the jewellery. However, customers will not need to pay VAT separately, as the revised selling prices already include VAT.
